It depends on how much you're looking to optimize really. I was about to suggest just flying short-haul first class since UA metal PQP is fare-based, and 2K PQP can be had for about $2.1k in fare on any round trip out of YVR, but then you mentioned nearing MM status, in which case you also probably want a lot of physical miles at economy fares.
How many miles away from MM? How many trips are you willing to fly? Does it need to be in prem eco / business if above a certain distance?
37,182 away from MM, so this mileage run is not going to make the difference. But if I switch all my long haul to partners going forward I'll not make MM before I die, there are only so many miles possible on YVR-DEN rounds trips each year....
I've recently made a few trips, I have my PQP gap down to about 1,500.
