How often do you fly long-haul Y? Does anyone actually think Y is luxury?
On my CX long-haul Y flights since covid, the service has been pretty brusque for 75% of them and Y boarding is always chaotic because of the sheer number of pax (same for widebodies on all airlines really) - people who don't understand how to find their seat number don't understand boarding groups either. My experience is that they manually divide Y into two halves and board the back first, any further splitting into more groups will make it worse.
I don't know about being like a cha chaan teng. I understand the idea you are trying to convey but these days when I am on a CX Y flight it doesn't really feel like HK any more, it could be a generic flight from anywhere to anywhere.
Japanese airlines seem to manage it in a pretty civilised manner even on a domestic widebody boarding 30 minutes before departure with a full Y load.
It's really a reflection of how bad the junior crew have gotten on CX. Hiring and training standards seem to have both gone out the window. Senior crew are carrying the deadweight. One ISM told me on a recent flight that the cherry on top is now they are subject to 360 review of the junior crew who have no idea what they are doing to begin with 😂🤣
