Flew on the JAL 787 in J last year LHR-HND ( came back in F) and enjoyed it.
JAL J had very good Sake/;plum liquor and food ( went for western was very good) and good selection of midflight snacks
Crew were excellent.
Have not tried the JAL A350 yet
JAL J can be more expensive than BA CW ( for December travel it was about the same until a few days ago when JAL J went up by about £1,000) but Cathay are offering reasonable fares to osaka/tokyo ( and will have a few days in HKG on the return)
LHR T3 lounges are excellent
JAL does do Priority luggage very well
The BA CW amenity kit is probably better than JAL's
Last may I got a reasonable deal in JAL F from Oslo via HEL ( this summer season JAL had their 777-300 with F on HEL-HND ) and some J ex-eu prices are reasonable ( some do go via FRA though )

Hi TBS, thanks for sharing.
I noticed that BA’s afternoon flight to Tokyo often prices about the same as JAL’s morning flight. I always assumed that was standard, but if I weren’t BA GGL I doubt I’d choose BA over JAL.
On lounges, I agree T3 has some excellent options—my favourite is the CX First Lounge, followed by QR’s lounge in T4. BA’s Concorde Room, to be honest, doesn’t feel particularly special.
