I recently flew both BA and JAL in business class and here are my impressions:
Food
- BA: The quality has been poor for years with no real improvement. Outside the main meal service there are no hot options, only a small pantry with cold snacks. The only structured offerings are the main meal and breakfast.
- JAL: Much higher quality, even the inflight meals feel thoughtfully prepared. The à la carte menu offers far more choice—beyond the Japanese and Western set meals, you can order things like ramen and other dishes. From after the main meal until 1.5 hours before landing, you can order anytime, including hot food, ice cream, and fried chicken.
- Alcohol: Can’t comment as I don’t drink.
Seat
- JAL A350: Brand new, with excellent legroom. You can even store a small cabin bag under the footwell, and it comes with USB-C charging.
- BA Club Suite: Better than the old CW, but still behind JAL’s A350.
Service
- Crew were about the same on both, though I’m GGL, so service is usually fine for me.
Overall
JAL clearly wins in both food and hard product.
What do you think? Has BA’s Club Suite caught up enough, or does JAL still win hands down?
