I took international flights last week and I got upgraded using segments. In the past I saw on the upgrade list bidders but did not see any on my flights. So either no one made bids or they no longer showed them on the list. There were 15 seats open so I had a good chance with Black status to get one but if I were one of those gold members on the bottom of the list I would have made a bid and jumped in front of the line with starting bids at 750 but seemed that no one did or if they did they didn’t show up on the list.
Bidding ranged from 750 to instant upgrades 2k. When they made the priority change they also got rid of the one benefits on the Latam Pass app of earning points for upgrades and other purchases on flights. Probably to discourage people from not making business reservations and just bypass it using bids to get cheaper seats. The difference between bidding at the low end 750 vs making an initial reservation in business is the same price as the instant upgrade. Therefore, the instant upgrade is not a good option because the buyer will not be getting the points and miles for the money spent for it. So bidding in my opinion is not worth it I rather spend the extra 1500 in the beginning so I get the points and miles vs spending 750 based on luck and get no points and miles. Now if the spread is between 750 vs 3000 then I would consider making a bid if I didn’t have any more segments.
Before this priority change, In a previous thread I posted is black signature worth it, I don’t think it is now if someone with no status can jump in front with a bid. BS doesn’t get twice as much upgrade segments than black even though BS needs to spend twice as much. It might be more cost effective to be Black and just make bids when you run out of segments.
