That totally blows. I wouldn't imagine you'd be able to get them back, but you can always try asking very nicely by writing a letter to someone at AAdvantage. My father lost all his Air Canada miles years ago, but he wrote them a letter a few months back asking if he could get them reinstated. He said he was going to use them to book two tickets to YUL for him and my mother and to do some sightseeing in Canada, etc. Not wanting to pass up an opporuntity to build some good will and to bring in some tourist money, AC agreed to credit my father's account the full amount of what had expired. I say give it a shot with AA and see what happens. No guarantees, but the only to make sure nothing happens is not to do anything about it. YMMV
