Just didn't want to do a touristy place tour again so began searching for all the less visited places in Indonesia (far from Bali/Jakarta due to overcrowding). Decided on Sulawesi islands and in particular Luwuk Banggai (some just call the whole area as Banggai Islands).

Was I surprised? pleasantly so.. glad no one talks about this place haha
Its insanely beautiful and seemed kinda untouched even though I saw a few western backpackers. they got the bluest lake I have ever seen (Lake paisupok) + you can free dive in clear waters. Didn't see anyone else around me most of the time.

Did this private Banggai islands tour. Although there are options to do open trip which are basically a dozen people group tour which I wasn't interested in. Some places we can visit ourselves but gotta bring in equipment or hire a boat.

but a good option to save a bit of money.

I intend to explore rest of Sulawesi islands since I feel Banggai islands are just the tip of the iceberg here. Main challenge was that there were no direct international flights here. So I had to take a flight from bali to makassar to luwuk. then took a ferry to banggai islands.
I guess this could be the reason its not as popular as Bali. hope it remains so. anyone else did visit sulawesi (central)?
