The status points seem more tied to revenue than the miles were, so they may adjust them as certain routes' revenue structures change. Basically they are rewarding those who travel on CI metal and in premium cabins. I can't speak for everyone but it seems those who do the majority of their flying fly to/from/through TPE on CI will be the least affected.

Regading rewarding short-haul, some examples:
TPE-CGK earns less status credits than TPE-SIN despite being further in distance
TPE-CTS earns more status credits than TPE-SIN, TPE-KUL, and TPE-CGK despite being significantly shorter in distance

Again, not for everyone but both myself and my wife were going to be short a few thousand miles for gold qualification taking into account our current bookings for the remainder of the year and early next. Wee are pretty much always on CI when flying from TPE and hardly ever use other Skyteam airlines. Under the new points system we will both (only just) qualify assuming the new points system in retroactive for the previous 12 months once introduced.
