Overall a much better experience than, for example, Galleries in LHR and whilst not the best US lounge I've been in, it was far from the worst! SAN airport itself was a calm place and would definitely use it again.
I was in there a couple of weeks ago before my flight to LHR and it was fairly quiet and not busy as was that section of T2. But I've heard that it can be busy earlier in the day with people queuing or being denied access so I'm guessing it depends on the time of day. The international section in T2 tends to be fairly quiet/calm in the evenings - at least when I've been there.
