usually when people talk about the "niceness" of a city in the context of connecting, they are not-so-subtly trying to tell you that they're either racist (e.g. in the case of atlanta) or have some really weird paralyzing fear of "liberals" (recently saw this when someone denigrated a connecting itinerary through PDX)

neither of those seem to be the case here, though
