As others have said in this thread, this hotel is very very outdated and in need of an upgrade/update. For the most part, the rooms and public areas have an early 80's feel and the hotel does feel very worn.

As a Diamond, I've had best luck with upgrades here with 1-800-Check-In. The front desk people, who seem to be an endless cycle of trainees, aren't familiar with Gold Passport perks and often don't upgrade (or offer breakfast certificates on weekends or offer Diamond amenity cards) without prompting.

I usually get a petite suite while staying here, which are OK; they feature a bedroom off of a living area separated by a sliding wall.

On my last visit, they did give me the Presidential Suite --it was very very roomy, but again, felt more like a throw-back to the 80's. This suite featured a master bedroom with a toilet room with sinks in one corner, to a bathtub/shower on a raised platform in the other corner. (It was wierd walking 15-20 feet from the sink to the shower.) The main living room had a small TV and stereo that had difficulty tuning in NYC-area radio stations. There was a 1/2 bath there along with a connecting dining room with a large table that could fit 8+. Next to the dining room was a little prep room with wet bar and refrigerator. I suppose if you had room service catering a meeting, that's where they'd set-up. The dining room had a door that connects to the next-door room, where you can add another bedroom/bath.

It was the biggest suite I've had at Hyatt but definitely not the best. But for the $65/night rate I paid for it (last December), it wasn't too bad.

I agree with the other posters here about the food in the hotel. While their sports bar has nice snacks to go with the drinks, the best bet is within walking distance outside of the hotel --the Frog and the Peach is one of the best in the region while Terra Nova across the street has awesome Cuban/Cuban-American food with occaisional live entertainment. The hotel is also about a 10-15 minute walk from the New Brunswick train station, so it is easy to connect there.

The hotel is owned by Johnson & Johnson who's corporate headquarters are located across the street. J&J has constant meetings there which usually blocks out not only most of the conference rooms, but a lot of the guest rooms for out-of-town guests/employees. And because the hotel is J&J owned, it features toiletries from J&J's Neutrogena company ...similar to what you'd find in a Hilton Hotel.

If you want to be able to walk around and enjoy yourself off the hotel property, the New Brunswick Hyatt is an obvious choice over the East Brunswick Hilton. However, if you're in the area for business and have no intentions of leaving the property, the Hilton will give you a nicer room at a lower cost ...even though you'll most likely have a view of the NJ Turnpike (as apposed to Route 18/27 from the Hyatt.)
