Seeing that there are
rumors about IC Bugis shutting down, I figured I'd write a review about my recent stay at Voco Singapore. It is not quite on par with IC Bugis, but would very likely be my IHG backup choice.
In sum, I'd have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I had read pretty negative reviews, and local friends advised against staying here. I don't I think I'd agree.
My four-night stay came in at a very reasonable 23k points per night (vs 40k at IC Bugis, 33k at IC Rob, or 19k at HI Atrium). I used a CSU to confirm an executive suite. Those suites are obviously older, as is the entire hotel. When Voco took over, a little bit of investment might've gone into the public spaces (restaurant and club lounge), but with the rooms you are basically getting the old Hilton (whenever that went through a refresh). The suite was still fine, bed comfortable, sleep quality good, but the hallways are pretty ratty, so if you're hoping to impress someone, this might not be the best choice.
The club lounge was a pleasant surprise. The evening spread was tasty and far more generous than has been reported. One could very easily make a meal of this, although I'm not sure why one would, considering the great food available outside. Breakfast similarly was very tasty, with a very appealing spread. Now, I know breakfast is perhaps the most difficult meal to judge, because it's so dependent on individual preferences. For me, I'd put Voco ahead of all my usual Singapore hangouts (ICs, Sheraton, 4P), with a possible exception of the JW. So yeah, thumbs up from me!
