Alipay has got my names incorrectly displayed in the Alipay account settings. In a similar way as for your wife. There's something wrong in how their system interprets multiple first names I guess.
Like:
First name: Ali Baba Pay
Family name: Lee
In Alipay the Real Name Verification Status shows "L. A. B. PAY (verified)"
I have tried to redo this but it always comes up the same. Also after talking to a human at Alipay customer service on the phone (last year) and going through manual verification, sending in a photo of me holding up my passport, it still has stayed this way.
However, for two trips to China (last year and this year) and heavy use of Alipay this name error has never caused any problems. Including paying with Alipay for tickets booked through 12306 app (real name verification in 12306 is correct though), linking a foreign AMEX and setting up Tour Card as backup payment method. So now I have given up and just left it like this. Everything works anyway!
