went to hk for two weeks in jan. Had great chinese food at T'ang Court at Langham hotel and wan ton noodles and desserts at Sweet dynasty (canton road opp harbour city shopping center)

we went there practically every other day in one week while staying at TST area. Spring moon and Felix at the pen was good too foie gras and the view. so was Yu and celestrial court at Sheraton.
Went to Yung Kee for their goose at wellington st. BUT VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED ! OVERATED! Poor service and rude staff and bad quality food! worse than any street vendors! I mean we paid about HKD $2000 for a dinner for four person and yet we received such poor level of service. It was the most unsatisfying meal ever. We arrived there at 7.15pm. First we were told that we had no reservation so have to be seated near the lift area. The whole of the 2nd level was practically empty. we asked to seat inside for more privacy but was told it was all reserved. As it was supposedly such a old resturant we believed the waitress. But barely 15 minutes later, another group of six were shown to be seated inside although no reservations were made either. then another group and another group. It was countless! every time someone arived a waitress would asked if any reservation and all said no. It was till 8.30 when finally someone who had reservations started to appear. The supervisor kept hoving at our table and kept hurrying us to order! We waited for 45 minutes before we were served any food! First came the ''famed goose'' (hkd $180 for half) It sucks! It was supposed to be crispy but it was not. instead it was drenched in some sauce, i think the goose at one of those small tiny shop at soy street is tastier and more crispy and at half the price! We had ventured to Shatin for the pigeon and tried the roast goose there and was good and cheap (Hkd 150 for the whole goose) ! we thought our soup and our apperstiers which should be the first course should be served first it was served almost last at the same time as our rice, ie after 5 main course were served despite our constant reminders that they should serve them first! the roast pigeon (hk 90) was a little crispy but it was far too salty, seems that salt are free ! their famed prawns were okay but pricy. 6 prawns for HKd 180 ! worth if it was tastier. The sourfaced waitress kept snatching our plates and replacing them when we were still eating! Very very rude. sharksfin soup hardly had any fins in them as compared to Tang court and celest 1 companion had seafood soup with beancurd, well there is hardly any seasfood! we waited very long for our last dish, orange pork ribs, we should have cancelled it and left! In the meantime, we noticed how money faced the waitresses and supervisors are. A japanese couple was seated next to us and they ordered 1 portion of goose and fruit juice and beer. The supervisor who took their order tried to ask them to order more food and kept saying more although the couple had politely said no and were treated with sneering look instead. After they had eaten, the lady stood up and was going to put on her coat. Before she could do so, the supervisor had rushed forward and said, "Money Money! Wait Money money" and signalled to one waiter to come forward. Being tourist and polite japanese they said and took out their gold credit card immediately! I mean so money faced! as if they would and could run away! Who would do so for a mean less than HKD $150 and hello we are on the 2nd floor and there is a guard at the lift, there is a lift attendent and there is another guard at lift area on level one and another one at the main entrance on the first floor! It shows very badly on them. Any way by this time the orange pork rinbs arrive. It was the most horrible dish of the night seconding the goose as it was cheaper at HKD$110! There was hardly any orange flavour but bitter taste. I supposed they scrimp and use orange skin instead! Yucks! The pork ribs had no meat at all all fats, every bit was fat! You could just clogged artieries if you ate that dish alone. We did not finish it of course. As we will finishing we excepted the supervisor to hover around ready in action. We were not disappointed. She had already standby with our bill at 9.45pm. We had wanted to eat dessert but was very pissed by their service and food. We were also charged for black rubbery eggs (cantury eggs) and ginger and chilli sauce we never touched! Maybe they were good last time, but its all HISTORY! We all regreted and vowed never to return there again. I should have spent the $2000 at Spring moon or T'ang .
Later just around the corner we visted Hang Fa Lau and had the best dessert s! Greatly recommended was their ginger milk pudding, warm liquid milk with refreshing ginger tase, strawberry or mango puddings, glutinous rice ball with black sesame paste ( some black gluey stuff bit taste fantastic) and hashima made with real rock sugar! some places just add normal sugar can taste the difference. The one at sweet dynasty is more novel as they served it in a little coconut for about the same price Hkd 35. We spent $200 only and the whole meal was so satisfying, The service was great and the shop manager was patient in explaining some chinese dessert. We were seated just at the entrance but they did not hurry us although we could see a long queue was formed outside by the locals! Nor chase us to make payment first! of course we did not linger as long as we like to as the little shop was small and cosy as we thought more people could come in and enjoy their desserts soon

it was like steping into heaven after visting hell at Yung Kee!
I think HK side have nicer chinese food, Quan Ju de for their Peking Duck (china resources center), city hall maxim, hunan at exchange and man wah at Mandarin, superstar seafood and small shops at causewaybay .
I will be visiting in march again to explore more chinese food. Cheers
