Agreed. This was a very popular flight, always sold out with many high-rev tech passengers (both business and personal) who like the nonstop. It made sense to start with EWR but disappointing that SFO was not next. There is no real competition here compared with NYC and elsewhere.
But for many years UA was always of the view that those of us at SFO and LAX can simply shuffle through ORD, EWR or IAD when we need to cross the pond. It is only more recently that UA began adding more nonstops beyond LHR and FRA.
I am pretty sure P2 flew on a 787 on SFO<->TLV but that was pre-pandemic.
