If it goes through as an Expedia booking, you are out of luck based on the terms, but YMMV. In fact, an FHV booking at Marriott generally has a different form of confirmation code that will not allow you to link with your Bonvoy account. Of course again, YMMV.

If only a one-night stay is necessary, not that much of a negative, as one can book a second night through the brand website and have the property link the reservations. In fact this can be a win-win if the last night is the FHV stay and it is at a resort or convention hotel. This way you can get a 4:00 p.m. checkout that you might not otherwise get with your elite benefits.

You statement is definitely not correct regarding FHR given many DPs here. The reverse is true. FHR stay is generally considered a Qualifying rate for purposes of benefits.

Of course, everyone can choose to interpret both the rules and DP to make their own decisions.
With Marriott, I have always received elite benefits and points when booked with FHR. In fact, every time i book thru FHR and enter my Marriott number in the booking, it shows up in my Marriott account right away and I have even been able to apply NUA's to those bookings made thru AmEx Travel. Even the pre-paid once where I had to prepay in order to get the $200 FHR Plat credit. The expedia platform does not matter, in fact, with Marriott it shows up as AmEx FHR Rate in the "rate info". It is only with Hilton that I have seen the Expedia being mentioned but even with "Expedia" being the underlying platform, I've always been able to see the booking in my Hilton account right away and have also received elite benefits when checking in.
