Very recently on LHR to LAS.
4 friends of mine on 2 separate bookings were upgraded from WTP to CW to 2 middle pairs a few rows apart. It happened within T5 about 4 hours before whilst waiting for their flight. It was long layover from MAN as their original domestic flight booking was cancelled hence a very long layover.
On refreshing their BP's group 1 (as below) saw a seat change and informed group 2 who did the same. Only 1 of that pair was initially upgraded but a very, very short time later the last one was upgraded too!!! I was really delighted for them.

Couple 2) Blue and Blue! with one of them flying BA long haul for the very first time
It really made my day when I heard all this news so all you Blue's out there............ it can happen!! (albeit a slim chance as always of course!)
This story makes me reluctant to pay the £1,300 in Avios and taxes that i'll need to upgrade the 2 people i'm travelling with to CW from WTP and take a gamble. They are BA Blue and have never flown BA before. I know the chances are slim, but could take a gamble and AUP at the airport.
