Has anyone submitted a Travel Cancelation Insurance claim on this card for an award stay? I have an award reservation at Park Hyatt Los Cabos in December and the cancelation policy is 90 days. Due to the health of an immediate family member, we may not be able to travel but we won't know until closer to the check-in date.
As documented in multiple places, canceling an award stay inside of the penalty window results in a cash charge, in this case 2 nights which equates to several thousand dollars.
I am happy to purchase a standalone travel insurance policy if the Hyatt card doesn't cover it, but I am reading conflicting reports as to whether or not award reservations are covered under any type of travel insurance since there is no cash deposit taken at the time of the reservation. FWIW, my reservation is guaranteed to my Hyatt card but there hasn't been any deposit as it is an award stay.
