Just got a new WF card (Active Cash) to replace my old one expiring soon. There's no line on the back to sign the card. I've never seen this before - including on another new WF card (Autograph Journey) received only about three months ago.
I called customer service, and the agent said signatures on credit cards are no longer required. I mean, I guess most in-person transactions these days are chip, or digital wallet, or at the very least chip - but it still struck me as odd.
Is this brand new, or am I just oblivious?
It sounds like it's being slowly changed at some banks. I updated 3 Chase credit cards in the past 2 years; the first of those updated cards, updated in 3/2024, had a signature line, but the other two, which I got updated a few months later, have no signature line.
On the other hand, I was automatically updated to a new card, due to a bank change, just a few months ago (already in 2025) from Mercury Cards, and it still has a signature line.
So it's happening at different points at different banks.
