Datapoint: Applied for Chase Hyatt personal card last night, in review. Called recon this AM, told application was
declined due to receiving last SUB within 24 months. Was told last SUB was 9/3/23,
reconsideration not possible,
no credit check, recommended re-apply tomorrow.
Earn up to 60,000 Bonus Points
- 30,000 Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.
- Plus, up to 30,000 More Bonus Points by earning 2 Bonus Points total per $1 spent in the first 6 months from account opening on purchases that normally earn 1 Bonus Point, on up to $15,000 spent.
Last SUB on 9/3/25 is confusing. Last approval (for this card) was 4/17/23. SUB in effect was same as today's as quoted above.
First few statements: 4/28/23, 5/28/23, 7/2/23, 8/2/23, 9/2/23, 10/2/23, 11/2/23; applicable Hyatt points posted the next day. First SUB tranche of 15k received 5/29/23 which is why I requested change to closing date immediately thereafter & why I considered May 2023 to be when I last received a SUB for this card. 4/17/23 approved card was closed ~6 weeks ago (shortly after receiving anniversary FNA).
Additional SUB tranches received on each statement above with final ~900 points on 11/2/23 statement for charges in early October 2023 (within 6 months). Thus, according to my records that last part of the SUB (as Chase might see it) was received 11/3/23.
Even considering charges not normally earning 1 bonus point (so presumably n/a for SUB purposes) and returns, 9/3/23 makes little sense. Total charges exceeded $15k by mid-September (so “on” 10/2/23 statement) and total returns were negligible (<$50).
Why Chase has 9/3/25 as my last SUB date is beyond me.
Conclusions: - It’s challenging to determine EXACT last SUB date for SUBs that are structured in this unique manner.
- When your mantra is “it’s all about the SUB(s)” this aspect is annoying.
- Additional DPs regarding exact date for this Chase unique type of SUB would be helpful.
