I don't cancel AA flights in that window because that is the policy for a free hold as well. If you place a hold after midnight CT, it will remain for almost two days. So I can't confirm the cancellation, but if you want to be sure, just put it on hold. AA is very generous here. (Exception is on some close-in flights, but otherwise if it's AA, you can hold it).
