My understanding is once you have OW status, you don't need to keep the card. The only requirement is the 2k JAL miles/year membership fee, which you could also get another way (eg: transferring Bonvoy to JAL miles) if you didn't want to keep paying an annual fee for the credit card.
Update: I did some further research on this, and it looks like the best value way to transfer points into JAL without flying or credit card spend is either transferring from BILT at 1:1, or IHG at 5:1
