The "funny-money" have value too. The more FB charges in cash, the lower the value of the funny-money gets. Which is the OP's point.
I also find FB miles ridiculously low-value, although taxes aren't the reason. When the same trip costs less with TK miles (which are widely considered worthless), something's not right.
FB is only good value if you grab a promo reward. But I have no desire to fly longhaul Y, and the J promo rewards are usually available to the "fever dream destination" (which I also have no desire of visiting), or to random places I've never heard about for a good reason, or to Dubai in July when it's 50 °C outside and Waldorf Astoria costs 80€ per night because no one wants to come.
