I am sure that most frequent visitors to Alaska know the following but to just maybe help some newbies:
Reporting back about the flight to ANC. Flight left DFW late but arrived on time. ANC seems to be a really nice airport, lots of Alaska decorations, good signage, rental counters in airport, and close into Anchorage.
All the airport employees (in fact almost everyone in Alaska) were very friendly and helpful. There was line at the car rental counters. Since we were in business class and off plane first, we were first in line but did have to wait for the counter to open up. Even in our brain numbed state it only took about 30 minutes total to get the car including inspecting the outside of the car. No shuttle rides involved for most of the companies.
All in all a good experience. Would definitely recommend ANC as a stop on a RTW. Small nice airport. In airport rental cars. In city airport. Alaska is a great destination with friendly people. Prices of lodging and car rental are a bit high but in line with other in demand tourist locations. There are lots of options to do as little or much as you want. You could do a short stay in Anchorage and still see great scenery from large city parks. And you can use buses, rental cars, etc to see a wider area.
Thanks to everyone for the pre-trip information.
