I learned the hard way [once] that you can’t sit in A/B seats on a CRJ if you have a lap infant. We had AB seats that first time, got told we had to swap to the CD side, and the next trip (we had a lot of CRJ/7 flying out of CVG, home base at the time), I knew to just pick from that side. There could (maybe should?) be an IT solution for that (exit rows are still blocked for me when flying with my kids), but until then, I know.
Don’t you already do this - isn’t this essentially in the CoC you agree to when purchasing your ticket. It’s not a checkbox per se, but is what you agree to when you click the ‘purchase’ button.
Do we really need the blaring ‘caution: the beverage in this [coffee] cup may be hot’ warning everywhere.
Since the COC clearly states that seat assignments are not guaranteed, you have agreed by purchasing your ticket that you may not get the seat you picked. If the seat they move you to costs less, then you get a refund, but the COC clearly states that you have no right to a particular seat or type. If you don't agree with the COC then don't fly. There is nothing unethical about UA's marketing here. In addition, they should really quit calling them "window" seats and just call them "outboard" seats, Then no one could ever claim that they didn't get what they bought if they didn't get a window.
