IME for schedule changes you're at the luck of the draw of the agent you get. Some are friendly and will have no problem moving you to another origin or destination city even if it's over 300 miles away or whatever, some may flat out refuse to do anything, others might move you to SJC but not LAX, etc.

So just give AA a call, tell them there was a schedule change and you're now arriving 9 hours later, and ask specifically to be moved to whatver LAX flights you found. If they say no, try HUCA.

Are there really no other ways to get to SFO in the morning?
