I was denied instantly, called the recon line, and was told there was nothing they could do; I should just wait for the letter, which would help me embark on my journey toward understanding why I would never and should never get this card.

A terse letter arrived a week later, saying I was denied because they "could not verify some of the information in my application". I called the recon line again, they put me on hold for about a minute without asking any questions, and then came back and told me I was approved. By the time I hung up the phone I had already received several let's-get-you-set-up emails.
