UA (and others) Domestic Seat Fees / Cash Upgrades are now taxable 24 Aug 2025

Seat fees and cash upgrades are now separately taxable if paid in $$$ but not if miles (1cpm)
No showing for Mileage Upgrade copays (now labeled service fees)

Aug. 24, 2025: Ancillary seat purchases in GDS for U.S. domestic flights
To meet regulatory requirements, ancillary seat purchases the seat price plus the U.S. transportation tax (7.5%). Example: Economy Plus $61.99 + $4.65 U.S. tax.
This has been deployed to GDSs* (Sabre, Travelport, etc.) and now, the seat price plus the tax displays when purchasing ancillary seats via the GDS. It’s business as usual with no change to how agencies sell ancillary seats.
*Exception: Amadeus implementation is targeted for October; until then, users won’t see the purchase line data with the document number in native Amadeus that they’re used to seeing. Users can still purchase ancillary seats. For questions, contact the Amadeus Help Desk.

This has been added to the Booking and Ticketing Guidelines page
.

Example, purchasing E+ seat for non-elite -- note the "plus tax"

Also true for cash upgrades
