Unfortunately, if they won't waive the AF, you either have to close it or keep it with AF and see what happens (becomes a Barclays non-cobranded or some sort of Citi option conversion).
No I didn't ask for a promotion to waive the AF for the existing card or if I upgrade to Silver. I can ask that as well when I try again. Otherwise, I'll just keep the card as is because I do want to have a card when the conversion to Citi happens.
