voco is an IHG brand designed to bring independent hotels into the IHG network.

Properties undergo a renovation that aligns with brand standards, though without being overly standardised – quite different from an “all in one” concept. In that sense, voco is closer to Accor’s Mercure brand.

From my own stays, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the rooms and the service. These are certainly not luxury hotels, but they can be very solid mid-scale properties.

voco Beaune – Cité Des Vins is a very nice property on the outskirts of the city, with a pleasant pool and a restaurant of very good standard.

voco Stockholm - Kista is also a very pleasant property. The rooms are fairly spacious, there is a nice indoor pool, and while the hotel is outside the city centre, it is still quite easy to reach by public transport

voco Strasbourg Centre is another pleasant property, well located in the city centre near the station. The rooms are not very large but quite comfortable, especially those with a balcony. Breakfast is very solid as in any French property. Overall the hotel is of good standard, with a tiny spa that is still enjoyable.

voco - Edinburgh - Royal Terrace is set in a historic building with a lovely garden. The suites are very pleasant, the location is central, and breakfast is of good standard

I stayed twice at the Voco Prater Vienna, both for short visits. I mainly use it as an airport hotel, since it’s fairly quick and easy to reach from the airport. The property is slightly out of the way, comfortable enough but without much character. I’ve never tried the breakfast as my departures were always very early.

I spent a short night at the voco Ma Belle - Danang after a late flight, before moving on to the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.
While I can’t say I was impressed by the city itself, I found the hotel very pleasant. The sea view room was spacious, nicely decorated, and I especially appreciated the quality of service. Breakfast was of a very good standard, making it a very enjoyable stay at a quite reasonable price.

Perhaps the challenge for the brand – which is a little surprising given how recent it is – is the wide variation in standards depending on the country or the property.
For example, some hotels provide a Nespresso machine while others do not. As a guest, you should expect a certain variety in terms of room size and overall standard across the brand.
