That's correct. Just being approved for the card - or having it in hand - or even activating it - isn't enough. You have to add it as a payment method on the AS site and select it as the payment method for your booking, then the partner award booking fee will be waived. You can still pay with miles and/or wallet funds for the actual ticket, but you must select the Atmos Summit card as payment method. It puts the usual $1 hold on the card at checkout, but no partner award booking fee.
