My friend was just there this past weekend and got the Royal Suite for "free" without status.
Of note, he also has another stay next weekend and accepted an upgrade to 1BR for $200 before he was given the Royal Suite.
In some ways, PH is probably the best luxury hotel for cheap suites if you are willing to pay a small copay.
August is “low season” but getting a speciality suite (and not just any speciality suite but the biggest one they have) is extremely unusual at the PH NY.
