Just phone up and inform the agent of the adult booking when making the child booking. You cannot book on the BA website for the child when no adult in the booking
My foster kid didn't get free seat alloation, but didn't worry about that - not like there were any especially good seats on a European flight anyway, so just selected a seat when check in opened
