My wife and I are going on a belated honeymoon to Japan. We plan to stay in Osaka from Sept 11-14. Our current plan is to fly LAX-SFO-NRT on Sept 10 and the SFO-NRT leg is in ANA The Room arriving 3:25 PM on the 11th. Our options that I see:
1. Clear customs and take late Shinkansen, arriving Osaka late
2. Book a 5:30 or 6:30 domestic flight and stress about clearing customs in time (or buy a refundable ticket for double the price)
3. Buy the last flight to Osaka at 8:30 and sit at the airport
4. Change to LAX-SFO-KIX and sit in 9D/G.
What would you recommend?
We live in Tokyo for half the year -- I would not stress at all about the domestic connections at 5:30 or 6:30 -- you can't believe how efficient Japanese airlines are... If you can swing an extra day in Japan I would suggest, however, that you spend a night in Tokyo and then head to Osaka the next day -- it's a short Shinkansen ride -- no need to stress....
