Atlas in April '24

Just jumping in here - we booked a 7-day cruise round trip from Lisbon in April on the World Navigator (Lisbon-Portimaio-Seville-Gibraltar-Tangier-Lisbon) in a Horizon Stateroom and it blew away every expectation we had going in. The ship is modern, well laid-out and is so well kept it literally sparkles. The crew utterly spoils you rotten, always smiling, always happy to help and eager to please. Your suite is made up freshly every day with crisp, clean sheets, water in glass bottles by the bed and L'Occitaine lavender pillow spray for each guest - loved those little touches. You can lift the reciever on the phone, dial 9 and have a steward knocking on your door with cocktails and canapes in five minutes, which you can enjoy in your plush robe and slippers. Rooms are spacious, and unlike other super yachts almost every stateroom has a balcony (we had a Juliet balcony with a floor-to ceiling window, the top part lowered electronically) so your ocean views are fabulous. The wines were wonderful and the food was excellent with highlights such as lamb chops, a beautiful leek risotto and foie gras, but they also have an abundance of healthy options, such as a full vegetarian menu every dinner service. In the morning the take-out place (Paula's Pantry) had a different freshly pressed juice shot and chia puddings which was nice when we got overstuffed by the outrageous offerings at the breakfast buffet, which included luxurious honey on the comb, jamon serrano and super flaky normal-sized croissants with fresh whipped butter. The beds were so comfortable, and because the ship was neither a "party boat" nor the kind of cruise where you'd bring the kiddies along we had a lot of peace and quiet at bedtime. There are plenty of places to go and escape, like the outdoor Zephyr Lounge on the stern where we'd take our blankets and books and just read, nap a bit, watch the ocean and sip some wine while underway. We took an excursion every day and they were well organized and worth the extra expense. There were only three drawbacks: 1) the clear liquor cocktails tasted like they were watered down, so don't order a martini. 2) getting off the boat was a logistical nightmare and though it was unclear whether this was the fault of Portuguese customs or the ship itself, communication was completely non-existent while we waited for nearly 2 hours to disembark - don't book a flight home the same day as disembarkation unless it's way later in the day as some passengers missed their international flights, and 3) on the ride back from Tangier to Lisbon we headed into 60kt winds with 10-foot seas, so if you were in the front of the boat it was probably pretty rough. We were four cabins from the stern and had a little rocking side to side, but it never felt dangerous. To sum up, I am not, and never have been, a "cruise person", but Atlas turned me into one. We loved in so much we booked another cruise on the World Voyager for next June and can't wait.
