The industry term is OTA. The moment you stop lying to yourself and using their made up words (“portal”), you see clearly what is happening.

If I wanted someone between me and my booking, it would be a nice travel agent and not one of these bottom of the barrel online clearinghouses where everything is substandard and everything is ..... Bank owned-OTAs may be slightly less bad, but the idea is the same.
