As I understand the email, it is an "instant status" offer. (If I had understood it to be purchasing status for 5000 Hyatt points, I wouldn't have posted.) And getting bonus mileage would likely mean that more miles would expire unused at some future date, because I fly so infrequently (and when I do, it's on American only about one time out of four).
Ah -- as Matt observed, I wrongly assumed based on the thread that you were asking about the point redemption option, since there is also a thread for the instant status pass (not a mod comment, just mentioning as a by-the-way, your post is fine here!)

The instant status offer is free, so the only cost there is the opportunity cost -- the current terms for the public match include "Members who have registered for the Instant Status Pass™ promotion in the last 2 years are not eligible for this offer."

i.e. if you could conceivably want to do the status match for real in the next 2 years, then "wasting" it now might preclude you from doing so assuming similar terms apply in the future.
