We’ve just been through YVR and I have to say that I was sceptical about the lounge but was really impressed. Lounge is opposite Gate 58 and BA were leaving from 62 so pretty convenient. We got the lift up with a lovely family of four. At the desk they were shown to left to the Plaza Premium Lounge after a boarding pass scan. We were given the Maple Leaf stamp and shown to the right to the Plaza Premium First Lounge and given two menus and told to sit wherever we wanted. At 18:30 the lounge was quite quiet and we got a table for two at the window overlooking a boarding Lufthansa A350. Drinks menu is ok - no champagne and Mrs JP finds Prosecco too sweet but had a Mimosa which she enjoyed. There was a buffet for those of us who prefer that but we ate from the menu and the food was good. I had the Lentil Paella and Mrs JP had the Salmon and then we shared the chocolate dessert. All very nice.
On the way out we asked about entry criteria and guesting. The lounge staff were lovely but had no clue about The BA Club. Apparently Boarding Group 1 and 0 are allowed in the First Lounge with one guest and Group 2 gets the regular Plaza Premium Lounge which I didn’t check out.
All in all, apart from the lack of champagne or Cava etc I think it is an improvement over the old YVR BA Lounge.
Oh, and last Cathay flight was mid-afternoon today so that wasn’t an option.
