Didn't really think about it much - either way it's still only a handful of miles.
BA is a OneWorld patrner. You get full AA milegae (per far class rules) if you provide you AA number at checkin (or if already in the record locator). BA will print the AA number on the boarding pass. If not there, ask. If there yoiu get the usually get the credit in 7 days.
Exception is BA flight numbers over the Atlantic to /from the U.S. You can not get AA credit.
