I’m in favour of putting some planning and thought into travel ambitions in order to avoid pointless zig-zagging across cities. Sadly, many of the itineraries being generated don’t really eradicate this.

Japan has always been remarkably adept at catering to what people expect from their visits. Whatever they’ve already decided Japan is, if money can be made to support the pre-conception, it will become true.
Chat-GPT also has a tendency to support people’s pre-conceptions.

I ended up in the back middle seat of a bus yesterday travelling through gorgeous mountain scenery. This game me a privileged vantage (and listening) point to see what it was my fellow passengers (almost all Europeans and most of those around me being Castilian and Catalan Spanish speakers) were looking at. Most had no interest at all in the local area, their focus was on translated anime and following expensively tanned people on social media.
I had a wonderful time looking at the mountains, streams, farms, crops, different styles of harvesting. I also saw the gleaming indications of a thriving cult in the area and learned a bit about the Sukyo Mahikari World Shrine whilst we went through some tunnels. Our interests were clearly not the same.
