Hilton - late cancelation - charge/fee

Booked a reservation for the upcoming Labor Day weekend and decided I really didn't want to take the trip.

I forgot that it was part of a Hilton Sale rate and had a 14 day cancelation window that expired on August 15.

I called earlier this morning, 10 days before checkin, and the front desk/night auditor told me there would be a fee of 1 night. plus tax, approximately $160.00.

I decided to keep the reservation, Called a few minutes ago and spoke to different rep. Asked if I could cancel. She said, "I don't see why not, you have plenty of time." I asked if there would be a fee and she said no, canceled the reservation, and it immediately disappreared from my Honors account. However, she said I would get a cancelation receipt which I never did.

I called Hilton corporate and asked them what they saw. The Hilton corporate said it didn't show a cancelation fee, and resent the cancelation receipt.

I don't really want to bug the property again, especially if they did something "nice" for me and it may have been against their policy.

How do cancelation fees typically show up? Would it show in my Honors account if there was a fee? When would the charges typically show up if there were any?

Just looking to get some, hopefully positive vibes, so I don't need to check my credit card over the next 1-2 weeks.

Do you think it helped that I was still 10 days out, and that it was a holiday weekend? The receipt still says charges may incur.........
