According to the AA web, you have to give the AAdvantage number when booking or on check-in to earn mileage.
Would it be better to get a Qantas frequent flyer number, use that (Air Pacific is a codeshare for Qantas) and transfer mileage from Qantas to AA?
Any thoughts here?
Thanks for any ideas.

How exactly does one transfer mileage from QF to AA ?
As Qantas [including Qantas JetConnect which is the NZ branch of QF] is a member of oneworld and Air Pacific are an AAdvantage Partner you can earn mileage directly - see

Just check those pages to make sure you will be in the right farecodes.
