My 3 oldest friends and I (we’re in our late 50s) are planning a week-long trip to New England to see the fall colors in October 2026. We’re thinking to start in Boston (I need somewhere I can fly into from Europe, they from California) and spend 3-4 nights there (2 of our group have never been), then another 3-4 nights somewhere else; perhaps Stowe, Vermont, so we can do some day outings from a single point plus have nice stops along the way, without having to change hotels too often.
I’m open to itinerary, hotel and outing suggestions. We’ll rent a car when we leave Boston. We want to stay nice places, mid-range to luxury, and prefer somewhere with a spa for at least one of the hotels. Go!
sorry for the late reply….
when in October matters around where to go for fall color viewing. Different areas have different peak times
late September— far north Maine and very high elevation in the mountains
early October the lower elevations farther from the ocean start to change
mid October coast Maine areas are peaking as are southern parts of VT/ NH, western mass
Late October the big cities along I-95 start seeing peak fall colors.
of course there is variations from year to year with triggers that start the leaves to turn. Like one year they delayed by about 2 weeks
