Booked here with the soon to be obsolete Accor+ Malaysia "Second Complimentary Night" voucher. Must be booked direct with hotel, only available for base room and flexible rate. Still, at MYR 430 for 2 nights, it was a steal.
On check in, was informed that I was selected as "Guest of the Day" and therefore upgraded to a Club Room. Result! Only catch: we were travelling with our 10 year old and children were not allowed in the lounge (more on this later).
No real room upgrade, apart from being given a room on a high floor. Room was decorated with balloons, had a personal note and cake was delivered later that evening (see photos). The AC unit was dripping, as described in the above review, but since I felt awkward to complain as it was a 2 night stay and we were hardly spending time in the room. The room was comfortable but definitely tired and due for an upgrade.
Location is exceptional, close to everything, Pavilion, KLCC and even the food truck court across the road which featured a very swish "Durian King" area.
Lounge was nice, with good hot snacks, comfortable seating, but underwhelming drinks: bottom shelf beer and wine. The wine itself was undrinkable, consisting mostly of sweet varieties and no sparkling options. I am a sucker for cheap plonk, but this was undrinkable. Most surprisingly though, the staff was awesome and willing to slightly bend the rules to accommodate my 10-year old. We were told at check in he could sit at lounge reception and we could bring him a plate of food while he entertained himself with a video game or book. We only stayed 30 mins at happy hour and it was appreciated. On the second evening someone was already sitting on the couch at reception so they ushered us into a quiet corner of the lounge with our son. Again, we didn't stay long and just grabbed a snack. We considered ourselves lucky and very much appreciated the gesture which went above and beyond. YMMV, especially if you have multiple/younger kids.
Breakfast at the ground floor restaurant was varied and good, with plenty of freshly made options. We had dinner one night at the Red Chinese restaurant but it was completely dead and even with the Accor Plus discount, overpriced by KL standards. Service was lovely though. Also exchanged our welcome drinks vouchers from the bar on the second floor and the choice of drinks (including cocktail of the day) was better than the lounge.
All in all a solid choice in KL and I would definitely stay again, even as a lowly Gold with no lounge access.
