Once again, it's important to recognize that this card isn't really going to be geared toward FT members or people who do mileage runs. It's really geared toward people who fly 4-5 times a year, who have the existing AS credit card, and are maybe at the cusp of lowest-level MVP status every year. It's geared toward supercharging loyalty among this group, maybe getting them to 6-7 flights per year and getting AS more revenue off of their credit card spend.
That roughly describes me and if this benefits list is accurate, I do see it as relatively compelling, particularly:
- The status accelerator of 10,000 points per year.
- The same-day change fee waiver (I do a lot of shuttle flights in the PNW and would value the flexibility).
- The eight Wi-Fi and lounge passes per year, which would cover all of my flying (though I think Wi-Fi should go free soon). It's also guaranteed at AS Lounge locations, whereas Priority Pass has become a lot harder to use domestically in recent years.
The automatic delay voucher should be a fare-level benefit.
Is all of that worth $395 for most people? Probably not, when you can get a Capital One Venture X card for the same price and get a Priority Pass benefit among other things. But if you're based in the PNW and mostly fly AS, it's probably worth considering at least for one year and the SUB.
