Story Hotel Signalfabriken (Stockholm) REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Although this hotel is mentioned elsewhere, I couldn’t find a dedicated thread so starting one here.

In summary: At 5K points per night, I thought this was an absolutely smoking deal in a fairly expensive city. Although it’s a fair distance from the city, I found it to be an easy commute via commuter rail (a ~10 minute ride) and the neighborhood has lots of dining options. The TSU suite is quite small, but can accommodate a family with a king sized bed and sofabed split across two levels.

Booking and Checkin: I booked a base room at 5K points per night and applied a TSU to get the family loft for a 6-night stay. As often happens, I couldn’t get Hyatt.com to make this work for 2 adults and 1 child so I booked for 2 adults only and contacted the hotel separately to let them know my son would be coming. The sofabed was made up for him when we arrived. Checkin was friendly and there was a very small welcome gift of some candies in the room. I also received a SEK100 voucher which I used at the lobby bar.

Room: Two levels connected by a very tight spiral staircase. The suite is small - the downstairs basically just has room for the bed, a dresser, and a stool. The upstairs is lofted and contains a fold-out couch.. when it’s folded out, there’s not room for much else. The bathroom is also small and water does tend to go everywhere when you use the shower.

Although small, the room worked fine for us and my son absolutely loved having his own level. Due to the very tight spiral staircase, I probably wouldn’t put a very young child upstairs but it works well for someone a bit older.

The room has huge windows (probably 12’ tall) and the shades were not proper blackout curtains.. so when the sun starts coming up at 430AM, the room starts to brighten up. The windows opened - it was fairly cool when we were in Stockholm and we didn’t have any issues with temperature in the room. As far as I can tell, there is no Air Con, but there was one fan in the room. Most people probably wouldn’t want to keep the windows open overnight because the suite looks out over a road with trams and busses running down it, but with the windows closed we didn’t have any noise issues.

In short the room definitely is not luxurious and it’s quite cramped for a family, but overall I thought it was a great value at 5K points and a TSU.

Breakfast: Similar to the Story Malmo from which I’d come, but less nice. Still above expectations for a Category 1. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and beans; a couple of vegetables; cheeses and cold cuts; rolls; and some fish items. Make your own waffles were available on the week days only.

Location: Removed from the downtown, but I didn’t find it to be a big problem. We bought a one-week transit pass and typically used the commuter rail to commute into the city; it’s only 2 stops away, and 7-10 minutes. There are many dining options nearby and a grocery store across the street.

Laundry: I think there’s only one game in town and that’s: Tvättomaten i Stockholm - quite expensive at $30/EUR30/SEK300 (cash only) a load for wash and dry (we had US cash with us and that happened to be the cheapest option). It’s one stop away (toward the city) on the commuter line.

For kids: Consider the National Sports Museum of Sweden. It’s free and has so many hands on activities for kids. My son had a blast, especially playing multi-ball.

Other notes: When this stay posted, it posted without any EQNs which I don’t think had ever happened before - my concierge quickly fixed it. Note that this hotel put many holds on my credit card (probably $2,000 worth or more as they put on an big hold to start and then added a new hold every day of my stay) despite this being a free stay. This didn’t bother me, but just a note of caution as I know some people have sensitivity to holds.

I found the front desk and bar staff to be very friendly and the bar area had a decent crowd most days.
