Overall, pleasantly surprised and definitely would fly American again. The Iberia Lounge in Madrid was solid. Good variety, quality was exceptional, coffee was good, and made from an espresso machine. Inflight meals were also pretty great, I was kind of shocked expecting the worse, but it was probably one of the best meals I've had from a North American carrier. It was better quality than our Virgin flight to London on the hop over. App was alright, it was a salad and some carrot mash thing. Salad was good, very fresh. The carrot mash was edible, but not really good. Wish they elevated it or used protein since it is such a small portion anyway. Pretzel roll was great. Had the brisket for the main. It was decent, but beef was overcooked, feel like it would be hard to get right. The mashed potatoes was its saving grace. But the salmon my seat mate had was exceptional. Choose salmon. Sundae was great. FAs were so nice and friendly, regularly walked down the aisles, super proactive and on top of things. The snack at the end of the flight was gyoza and salad. Chose the gyozas, very tasty. Wish they gave the soy sauce separately (maybe request), it was a lot of sauce and made it more salty that I would've liked. The most disappointing part was the Flagship Lounge at DFW. So bad and uninspired. Most of the food was flavorless. It's like they tried since they regularly rotate the dishes, but failed to make anything tasty. The quality was not acceptable for a premium product, considering its their main hub too. I would be scared to use the Admirals Club based on our experience in the Flagship Lounge. We used the Delta One lounge at LAX and it was exceptional, holy crap. AA really needs to elevate their lounge offerings, that lounge alone would steer me towards choosing Delta.
