Hi dayone -
It is clear to me that AS wants to generate more revenue from selling miles. They offer .02/mile "sales" every few weeks ... practically when one stops the next starts. Offering a non-cost item like EQM on award tickets is just another way to encourage people at the margin to "top off" their accounts by buying miles.
And as long as we are talking about award tickets, the current inflation has pushed 50K CX Awards to 85K JX Awards. 65K JL Awards are now 95K. Again, at the margin, more people buying more miles to get to new, higher award prices.
And as for MP itself? Reduced earnings bonuses for non-100K elites sure sounds like the points/$ structure of the AA/UA/DL programs. So does reducing the bonuses/perks given for reaching EQM levels for most flyers.
At its core, it sure sounds revenue based. We even talk about mileage being a currency.
For people on FT, this ought to be clear.
