I think the fully refundable portion is the biggest myth of all. In my 13 years of GS, I would say a very very small percentage of my flights have been fully refundable... Most fares have been P or Z with an occasional C or D and I have never selected the fully refundable option (from what I recall at least!)
United literally states the following on the Mystatus page regarding GS qualification:
- Members who receive United Global Services invitations tend to increase their flight activity each year, fly in premium cabins, and purchase fully refundable tickets – all exclusively on United.
