Called UA and even though several open Polaris seats are on the seat map, agent says they’re sold out. I can only think to try with the gate agent.

PremiumPlus is oversold on that flight by a good number of seats. There will be a number of op-ups based (usually) on status and fare class. An upgrade to Polaris is usually not in the cards for someone already upgraded from economy.
